Born in Oklahoma in the mid-seventies, J. Grant was immediately whisked away to Southern California, where he spent a great deal of his life growing up. Many years were spent in Big Bear Lake, a ski resort near Los Angeles, and he lived throughout SoCal in places such as Apple Valley, Fallbrook and Long Beach for a bit before deciding to head somewhere new. He moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area in 1995 and has mostly lived there since. The only exception was a brief stint in Boulder, Colorado in 2000, around the time that the FLEM COMICS series began attracting a formidable readership.
FLEM was the first work of J. Grant to make the rounds, especially the Jay Storyline. After finishing that project, he moved on to the hobby of writing, which soon became an obsession. His first novel, Pedestrian Wolves, was published on Wildside Press in 2004. He also began drawing a second comic series called TWO LUMPS: THE ADVENTURES OF EBENEZER AND AND SNOOCH.
James has been a fine dining waiter, an oil refinery worker, a roofer, a line cook and a computer tech, as well as a bassist, drummer, guitarist and singer in various non-lucrative rock bands. He is pretty much busy working on something all the time, be it a new book, the two comic strips that are still running, raising hell with his wife, or playing with his daughter. Mr. Grant currently works during the day supporting computer networks and likes to play video games, write blues rock on his guitar and drink a lot. He lives in Dallas with his wife and writer of TWO LUMPS, Mel Hynes. They have a pair of obese cats and a palm tree.
